The Gats! Written and illustrated by M.B. Goffstein in 1966. This is a first edition collectible book published by Pantheon Books, NY.

M.B. Goffstein was born in 1940. She graduated from Bennington College and taught children's book illustrations at Parson's School of Design. She was a well known American writer and painter. She died in 2017.

This book, The Gats!, was the first book she published. It received an cheap Honor award at the Children's Spring Festival. This book has the original silver honor award book seal on the spine. This book is a hard cover with a paper jacket. It is in very good used vintage condition. A rare collectible find.

The story is of the Gats, little shapeless creatures in search of a home. Rhyming words, nat, cravat, bat, rat, etc.. The illustrations are black and white in minimalist style.
