Antique Glass Humidor Virginia Tobacco Factory Original Label cheap Collectible Vintage Tobacciana Gift for Smoker Man Cave Tobacco Jar Accessory

THERE IS FREE SHIPPPING on this vintage glass Virginia Tobacco Factory humidor.

Not being around tobacco items either in my youth or adulthood, I would have taken this handsome glass cheap jar for a kitchen canister of some sort. I would have perhaps used it in the bath for cotton balls or bath soaps. But the label on the base tells us that this item had one original purpose:

"FACTORY NO. 42, 2ND DIST., VA
NOTICE- The manufacturer of this tobacco has complied with all the requirements of law. Every person is cautioned, under the penalties of law, not to use this package for tobacco again."

The shape of this humidor is very pleasing, being 5 1/2" square at the base and about 5" tall. The 1" ribbed band around the neck and the architectural shape of the base create a sturdy form.

The inside of the lid has "fingers" to hold a damp sponge or cloth to keep the tobacco moist; the 3 3/4"-wide mouth and the shallow 3" inner depth allows the owner to easily reach the "bottom of the bowl."

With the exception of the missing metal clamps on either side, the item is in remarkable condition: no breaks, chips, or cracks and not more than a few tiny nicks off the inner edge of the lid.

The glass in this piece is very heavy, and possibly is hand-blown, given the various air bubbles that can be seen inside the clear glass top.

I haven't taken the liberties of washing out this antique humidor, it somehow seems sacrilegious; I'll leave the proper mode of maintenance in the hands of its new owner.
