Cheap Orange Nautilus against Blue Background Watercolour Painting

An original watercolour painting of a Nautilus, a bizarre sea-dwelling mollusc in shades of orange and blue. The details and outline are lined with orange watercolour paint to give the cheap creature a more illustrative look. The sea is textured using a sponge to give the painting more dimension.

The painting is on a piece of watercolour paper (300gsm) (10cm x 15cm, approx. 4in x 6in, equivalent to A5) and was made using Windsor and Newton watercolour paints. Please note that this comes unframed. The image may still be water-soluble so please take care to avoid getting it wet.

Sea creatures have always inspired me. This bright image captures the brilliant colours of the Nautilus and provides interesting contrasts. The Nautilus has been largely unchanged for millions of years, often referred to as living fossils.
